The Cut of Our Kimono Robes

When co-founders and sisters Renee and Tiffany Tam visited Asia with their parents as young girls, they were inspired by the handcrafted work of local artisans and the versatility of the traditional kimono. When they decided, many years later, to take that inspiration and drive it into their own modern kimono robe business, they wanted to bring that handcrafted, versatility to every piece. Read on to find out how each piece has been designed to give you a fit that’s as unique as you are.

The Length of Your Kimono Sleeve

One of the loveliest shapes of traditional kimonos is expressed in the kimono sleeve. For our modern kimono robes, we’ve brought that traditional cut into the design. Additionally, most of our kimono sleeves are cut to be three quarter length to fall above your wrists. Because we don’t use shoulder seams, those sleeves will fall slightly differently on everyone, making your kimono robe an absolute original.

No Seams for a Fluid Drape

As mentioned above, our pieces like the blue kimono robe above do not have shoulder seams. That gives the design a more fluid drape, uniquely falling on your body and fitting you like a glove. Whether you have broader or narrower shoulders, you can be sure that without the seams, you’ll be able to comfortably let the soft silk fall over your shoulders without squeezing into the kimono robe.

Sweet, Short Kimono Robes

When deciding which kimono robe to add to your collection, you may be going back and forth between and short and long length. Our short kimono robes run about 35” in length from the shoulder to the bottom of the hem, typically falling above your knees. These short kimono robes are perfect if you’re a little shorter and want a mid-length kimono robe. They’re also beautiful on very tall bodies, and of course, in addition to a luxurious kimono robe for home, they’re beautiful cover ups for the beach or a cardigan for the office.

Lovely, Long Kimono Robes

If you’d like to add a longer kimono robe to your collection, we don’t blame you! The sophistication and drama of a long length like in the above long black kimono robe is hard to pass up. Each of our long kimono robes falls about 52” to 54” from the shoulder to the bottom of the hem, just touching your ankle and draping your whole body in luxury. Pairing a long black kimono robe with jeans and heels is an easy way to make a bold statement.

Because the cut of our kimono robes are fluid, elegant and loose, they should fit your body in their own unique (and comfortable!) way. If you’re ever unsure of how each piece might fit, you can always visit the product page where we have all the measurement details to give you the most accurate of how each kimono robe might personally fit you. Additionally, our Lace Collection does come in small and large sizes so you can find the best cut for you. No matter which kimono robe you choose to add to your collection, you can be sure the fit will be as unique and beautiful as you are.
