Our Favorite Kimono Robe & Book Combinations: Picks from the Team

Relaxing should be easy, but so many times it’s not. You’re the modern woman, so you’re on the go and always trying to check the next to-do off your list. Add in holidays and family and work, and the list seems never-ending. That’s when relaxing becomes even more important. When you truly don’t have any time to wind down and calm your mind, you need to do both of those things more than ever.

But, if relaxing is not on the top of your daily task list (and if not, we get it!), it can feel almost foreign to slow things down and lean into the calm. It is so easy to get triggered by a ping or notification, hop on your phone, and be lost in the vortex of social media and email and the other rabbit holes of the internet. When that’s the case, having certain elements in place to help slow your mind down is essential. That might be a cup of tea, a beautifully lit candle, or even a good book. We happen to think kimono robes are another great reminder to relax. As soon as you slip on your silk or charmeuse kimono robe, it helps you slip into another (more relaxing) state of mind.

So in the spirit of community, and in recognition that we are all always working on getting a little more down time into our schedules, our team has pulled together two of the most relaxing things we could think of: kimono robes and book recommendations! We’ve rounded up our team’s favorite reads and favorite kimono robes to inspire your own moment to wind down and take a breath from the speed of everyday life. Here’s what we’re reading and wearing:

A Flower Kimono Cardigan and a Fanciful Tale

When it comes to her favorite book, Joanne, from our store team, couldn’t choose just one. When she’s winding down, she either loves to dive into Animal Farm and dig into its social commentary, or she goes in the total opposite direction and reaches for Peter Pan! With the whimsical story, it reminds her of her childhood wonder and love of all things Disney. She wears a flower kimono cardigan to sit back and relax, but also loves the Yurina Kimono Robe for heading out on the town. Joanne loves the feel of the charmeuse and the neutral colors are “easy to match and I love the regal kimono pattern.” We couldn’t agree more!

Tina, who works with our online team, is a big fan of the book Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. She says, “I love that it combines unlikely characters with various backgrounds and perspectives to work as a team —making the impossible into reality and eventually becoming like family.” And what relaxes her most when reading her favorite book? A beautiful flower kimono robe that’s “like a watercolor painting on a kimono robe canvas, especially when mixed with the soft pastels, [it] gives it a feminine look and silhouette —a wearable work of art.”

A Kimono Wrap and a Clearing Space for the Future

Claire, part of our brick and mortar team, chose the book Spark Joy by Marie Kondo. Claire explains, “This book taught me how to organize and discard the things that have outlived their purpose. And I appreciate that because no matter how wonderful things used to be, we can't live in the past.” So which kimono robe sparks joy for Claire? The Azumi Kimono Wrap. She says, “The stunning flowery patterned kimono wrap with decadent velvet details and double-walled fabric construction makes me feel absolutely gorgeous and warm in the winter! I love it!”

A Maxi Kimono Robe and Motivation for Finding Your Inspiration

For Tiffany, one of KIM+ONO’s co-founders and CCO, Girlboss was a book that left her with oodles of inspiration. She says it, “inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and start my own business.” (Hint: KIM+ONO was that business!) And the kimono robe she’s currently loving for quiet moments of calm? This new maxi kimono robe in sage. She says that the “color and print are so serene; it makes me feel calm just looking at it.”

A Flower Kimono Robe and Delicious Recipes

Doris, who’s part of our store team, loves to unwind by making recipes from The Beauty Chef by Carla Oates. She explains, “Love delicious food and healthy skin? Yes, I do! I love to satisfy my stomach and nourish my skin with nutritious recipes from this cookbook.” And another way she loves to nourish her skin is with this beautiful silk flower kimono robe. She says it’s her favorite because “waking up with this soft and beautiful robe makes my day full of sunshine.”

Renee, one of KIM+ONO’s co-founders and CEO, seconds Claire’s book suggestion: Spark Joy by Marie Kondo! For Renee, she loves this book because it “helps me destress & stay organized at work and at home with the family.” Her favorite piece to relax in? A gorgeous floral kimono cardigan that’s as washable as it is wearable. She says, “As a mom, I love material that contains both the ease of washing and the beautiful factor of the silk.”

A Maxi Kimono Robe and Your Maximum Potential

Sonja, who works with our online team, loves the book The Big Leap for maximizing your own potential. She says, “I love it because fear and guilt are the biggest blocks I've had, and this book has opened my eyes to some of the self-sabotage that I do to myself. Everyone should read this and overcome their fears!” And while she’s breaking down boundaries, Sonja loves this maxi kimono robe in dream, saying “you just need to put it on and feel your vibration elevated!”

We hope you get inspired to pick up one of these books or pull your own favorite off the shelf and give yourself some down time this week. And don’t forget to add a little luxury to your moment of calm, you deserve it.
