The Top 7 Things We Love About Mothers and Mom-Like Figures in Our Lives

It’s the week before Mother’s Day and, frankly, we are celebrating all week long! As a small family business and a tiny team of many mothers and fathers, we know how important it is to celebrate this special holiday. It’s important to us because mothers are the bedrock of our communities. Whether they’re our biological mothers or not, the moms in our families, communities, and social systems are the engine that keeps the train running. They are the foundation of how we can grow and evolve. They are the ones who lift us up and help us keep going in the hardest times, and celebrate our wins in the best times. So when it’s time to celebrate mothers — we’re ready for it!

This week in the journal, we’re listing seven things we love about mothers (and mother figures) and celebrating all the ways they bring beauty to our everyday. Whether she’s walking into the room in her silky floral robe or lounging around in sweats, she brings her own beautiful energy wherever she goes and we are all better for it. Although this is certainly nowhere near an exhaustive list, here are seven of our top reasons why we adore mothers so very much:

Mothers are Home

We have been living through a challenging time these past few years, and mothers have been the sturdy anchor keeping us from floating too far from shore. Whether they offer advice and support from afar, or keep the household running on a daily basis, mothers create a sense of home for all of us. It could just be the simple sensory moments they create — the smell of their home-cooking, or the feel of the silky floral robe they love to wear, or the music they play each morning to set a positive intention — mothers create home wherever they go. And thank goodness for that.

Mothers Know How to Nurture Others

It is certainly a skill to know how to nurture another human being. We all benefit from being loved by a mom or mom-like figure in our lives. Whether it’s nurturing our bodies with good food or nurturing our minds with important lessons or nurturing our souls with deep love, moms are always helping us grow. We created our silk robes for women knowing that they’d be draped around the shoulders of Wonder Women like mothers — so we wanted them to make her feel as special as she truly is. Our love for mothers is stitched into every silky floral robe.

Mothers Know How to Bring the Sunshine

If you’ve ever been able to bring a smile to your mom’s (or mom-like figure’s) face, then you know the power of a mother’s smile. It brings the sunshine! When mama is happy, we’re all happy and for good reason. Mothers are always watching and checking in with their community; they can sense when something’s wrong and when a little extra cheer needs to be brought to someone’s world. Wrapping up in a plus size kimono robe or a silky floral kimono robe she loves, a mother embodies the archetype of the Benevolent Queen, spreading so much joy to the ones she loves. And we are all luckier for it.

Mothers Help Us Celebrate Big and Small Moments

Whether it’s a promotion at work or learning how to tie our shoes, mothers are there for the big and small moments in our lives. And of course, they know that the small moments are the big ones. The hugs, the phone calls, the smiles, the snuggles — these are the things that matter the most, and we love that moms are always there to make those small moments beautiful. We made our silk robes for women so that women and mothers could remember that the small moments are truly the moments that make up our entire lives. If we can be a part of making those tiny moments a celebration with our silk robes for women, then we will have accomplished so much.

Mothers Support Us, No Matter What

Life is a constant rollercoaster, and there are so many variables that make our days feel like a whirlwind. But mothers are there to support us no matter what. That’s why, at KIM+ONO, we want every mother to feel supported. Whether she feels like a beauty queen as she wears her kimono bathrobe, or she feels beautifully feminine and powerful in her silky floral robe while taking care of her newborn, we want every mother to feel supported because that’s what she gives to us.

Mothers Go Through Every Season With Us

From year to year, mothers remain a constant in our lives. Their love carries us through the season of our own lives. In all the monumental moments, as we change and grow, our mothers witness us like no other can. When we created our plus size kimono robes and silk robes for women, we knew that we needed to create pieces that could serve as heirlooms — something you’d want to pass down from generation to generation. We hope every mother feels that her legacy is her love.

Mothers are Queens

Perhaps the bottom line is, mothers are queens. They go through so much in mind, body, and soul to help support everyone else. And we hope that each and every day, mothers of all kinds feel loved and supported by us. Each time a mother slips into one of our silky floral robes or kimono bathrobes, we hope her day is elevated to a level that matches her beauty and radiance.
