6 Essential Tips to Host a Happy Thanksgiving

Posted by Renee & Tiffany on

One of our favorite holidays is just around the corner and we’re ready to celebrate in style. From the family get togethers to the food to the holiday shopping, Thanksgiving is a beautiful time of year to take stock of what you’re grateful for and spend time on things that truly matter. But that being said, if you’re hosting Thanksgiving, or traveling for the holiday, or just trying to catch up on work before taking a few days off, the week before can turn into a whirlwind if you’re not careful.

Our mission and ethos at KIM+ONO is to take the overwhelm out of your days by adding a little luxury to it. And perhaps that counts double on big holidays. We think that Thanksgiving should be a time of presence and joy, and that entertaining shouldn’t be a stressful undertaking. That’s why we’ve rounded up our five essential tips for hosting Thanksgiving to make this a magical holiday celebration without any of the stress.

A Little Kimono Fashion to Make a Big (and Comfortable) Statement

The absolute best outfit for a Thanksgiving dinner (in our humble opinions) is a kimono wrap. This beauty of layer can transform with you throughout the day. Start off with it belted off and paired with some punchy hot pink heels. And as the day progresses, lose the belt without losing the style. This kimono wrap is a mid-weight that work beautifully in the winter months and has the velvet detail that brings out the festive feelings for any event. We love the colors of this kimono outfit over top a simple black underlayer or jeans and a tee. In any setting, this kimono wrap is a great go-to for transitional weather and holidays when a little kimono fashion can go a long way.

A Simple and Mouth Watering Turkey Recipe

If you’re hosting Thanksgiving this year, then you might have turkey on your mind. It’s the main, mouth watering event after all. But with so many recipes out there, you could find yourself getting carried away with all the different ways you can prepare it. Our suggestion is to keep it simple. This Thanksgiving turkey recipe has four main ingredients (besides the Turkey): onion, apple, lemon, and herbs! Keeping it simple gives you more time to mingle, take photos in your gorgeous kimono outfit, and play the belle of the ball. This recipe is so simple and delicious, that when it’s time to eat, your guests will wonder how you pulled it all off without spending your whole day in the kitchen.

Don’t Be Afraid to Rearrange Furniture

Your home’s best feature is the hospitality your guests feel. If they’re comfortable, at ease, and having a good time, the decorations and the space don’t matter. If you happen to live in an apartment or you’re having a big family over, don’t be afraid to rearrange your furniture. Bring coffee tables to the garage or into a closet so you can open up more space. Make sure that there are places for your guests to set their glasses, but don’t feel bashful to get rid of the pieces that take up too much space and put smaller furniture into the mix instead. We love the look of decorating with your kimono fashion, too. Bring the elements of the room together with a simple drape over a chair like we do with this light blue kimono. Finding items in your house to pull the colors together will create a warm atmosphere, even as you get rid of some furniture to make room for your guests.

Mix Drinks Ahead of the Celebration

Don’t play the bartender during your Thanksgiving celebration, play the guest. That means: keep the cocktails simple. It’s always a good idea to have a plethora of champagne and wine for celebrations, but for those guests who may want a more decadent cocktail, hosts can find themselves mixing instead of mingling. To keep your guests happy, and you freed up to be part of the party, make a mixed drink cocktail ahead of time. Let it be the signature mixed drink of the party that guests can ladle out of the punch bowl. You can mingle in your kimono outfit and have a good time with your family and friends, and your guests can toast with a memorable cocktail.

Say Thank You in Real Time

This is the season of gratitude, and while we tend to be better at sharing our feelings through written words, speaking our thanks is incredibly powerful. The people you spend your Thanksgiving with are the most important people in the world to you. Take a moment from all the hustle and bustle of the day and the season to say thank you to those you love the most. The delicious turkey and cocktails, the kimono fashion and decor are important, but nothing is as important as the people you love. Whether it’s as each one of your guests leaves or arrives, take one small moment to thank them for being present in your life today and always.

Give Yourself a Pat on the Back

Once the day is all over, there will be dishes to be done, and furniture to put back, but don’t forget one very important part of marking the occasion: pat yourself on the back. It can be a lot to host Thanksgiving, so don’t forget to give yourself some credit for making it happen. Take stock of the day, recall the perfect moments, and the imperfectly perfect moments, kick up your heels, wrap up in your kimono wrap, and toast yourself for a job well done.

We hope these six tips for hosting Thanksgiving help you to prepare for this beautiful holiday with confidence and excitement. A happy host is a happy party, and beyond all the busyness of the season, it’s a wonderful time to get together and be grateful for the truly important things in life.
