5 Things You Didn't Know About Our Kimono Wraps

We have always set out to create modern, contemporary pieces of luxury for the modern woman. From the time that sisters and co-founders Tiffany and Renee Tam were little girls, they traveled with their parents on trips to Asia, and were mesmerized by the artisans who crafted traditional Japanese kimono. As they grew older, they took those childhood experiences and inspiration from their own family history to create a modern kimono robe for the modern woman.

And through that creative process, the KIM+ONO kimono wrap was born! It’s one of our signature collections and beloved by so many customers. Each of our long kimono dusters have become fan favorites in their own rights. We’ve recently added new colors and styles to the collection to add even more options to these best sellers. So today in the journal, we’re going to share five things you may or may not know about these kimono wrap robes. Read up here and then go and find your own favorite kimono wrap to wrap up in a little luxury and be well!

Our Kimono Wraps are the Only Double Lined Pieces

Most of our kimono robes are all single layers of material. But the beauty of this long kimono duster is its double lining. Our kimono wraps are still considered lightweight and breathable, but with an extra layer of material — these botanical beauties give a little bit extra warmth. Our charmeuse kimono fabric is only 22mm in weight, and it’s got a liquid drape and flow. That remains true for these lovely floral kimono cardigans. And while the print is featured on the outside of the kimono wrap, the inside lining gives a sophisticated finish to the entire look. Whether you wear this over jeans and a t-shirt or a little black dress, the double lining gives a touch of warmth and a whole lot of head-turning appeal.

The Velvet Trim of the Long Kimono Duster Adds Extra Weight

The wonderful thing about these long kimono dusters is the velvet trim! Around the entire collar and sleeve is soft, sleek velvet. It’s not only a visually appealing look and an added touch of luxury to the delicate charmeuse, but it also adds a little extra weight to the piece. These floral kimono cardigans are double lined with charmeuse kimono fabric on the outside, and the velvet gives a beautiful movement to the piece. All of our kimono robes have a liquid drape and a fluid feel, but the velvet kicks it up a notch. Along with the longer sleeve length, the velvet trim adds a bit of luxurious coziness to the whole feel of the kimono wrap.

Some Colors of these Floral Kimono Cardigans Have Pockets

You read that right! While we don't offer pockets for all of our floral kimono cardigans, we do have certain pieces with side seam pockets. One of our favorite styles, the Azumi Kimono Wrap offers pockets in the long length in both black and navy. Another favorite, the Haruka Kimono Wrap, has pockets in the long olive and long rosewood colors as well. While we don’t offer pockets in every selection, we were able to add these side seam pockets to these four options because of the beautiful double lining and kimono fabric. Drop your phone or some lip gloss into your side seam pocket so you can easily sway in and out of your home all day. We love the functionality of these pockets and how they add to the modern feel of this floral kimono cardigan. Wearing one of these colors with pockets over a jumpsuit, romper, or dress that doesn’t have pockets, is a great way to add functionality and style to your entire look.

Update! Since December 2022, all of our fan favorite Kimono Wraps have side seam pockets to combine both function and elegance in one beautifully liquid drape.

Kimono Wraps Make Great Options for Men’s Kimono Robes

Some of our most popular men’s kimono robes are our kimono wraps! The velvet touch and the botanical designs make them a wonderful option for many of our male customers, who love the added details and have worn these everywhere from lounging to poolside. Another reason men tend to love these kimono wraps is because of the sleeve length. The sleeves are just a bit longer than the cut of our kimono robe sleeves, so the length paired with the weight from the velvet end up giving our male customers a little extra material and coverage in the arms. The kimono sleeve offers plenty of room so it’s not tight around thicker forearms and shoulders as well. Our male customers love wearing this at the beach or pool over their swim trunks, but we also love to see these men’s kimono wraps worn as lightweight jackets. While Tiffany and Renee started with the modern woman in mind, men, and non-binary folk can find so many ways to wear these kimono wraps and express just how unique and wonderful they are, too.

These Floral Kimono Cardigans Range in Sizing

You probably know by now that we have two collections when it comes to sizing: our ‘One Size Fits Most’ Collection and our Plus Size Kimono Robe Collection. While those are the main differences, there are sometimes small differences between the styles as well. For our kimono wraps, this is true, too. Our floral kimono cardigans range in size from fitting up to 43” in chest and hips to fitting up to 50” in chest and hips. There is a wide range, and the maximum measurements account for the kimono wrap comfortably wrapping with about two inches of material on each side. So if you choose a kimono wrap that fits up to 50” in chest and hips and your measurements are 50”, that piece will wrap comfortably for you and fit just fine. You can see all measurement details on every product page under ‘SIZING’ to give you the most accurate idea of fit.

If you haven’t tried one of these floral kimono cardigans yet, now is the time! It’s a great transition piece, so wear your kimono wrap poolside this summer and then let it help you transition into the fall as a lightweight jacket. No matter what, you can find something that works for you an your style in these fan favorite kimono wraps!
