Each and every month, with the new moon, we get another chance to set new intentions for the next month ahead. The moon cycles give us the opportunity to remember that all of life works in a cycle, and when we pay attention to the ebbs and flows, it can help us stay grounded even in the midst of these challenging times. This has certainly been an unprecedented spring with lots of curve balls thrown at most communities all across the world. It is a time to recognize that we’re all in this together and that our energy, positive or negative, has the potential to transform us and to impact others, even from afar.
With that in mind, and honoring the fact that it has been a challenging time to stay positive, we’ve put together a short list of rituals you could enact during this new moon. These new moon manifestation rituals are not meant to be an end all be all to the difficulty of this time. But by using one or all of these small acts, aligned with the new moon on May 22, 2020, you may start to feel a little lighter and little bit more intentional as we move through this next phase of healing and growth together. Here are a few new moon manifestation rituals to try:
Part of staying at home and sheltering in place has made the usual flow in and out of our homes more stagnant that usual. One sweet way to break up that stagnant energy is to burn herbs like sage, cedar, juniper, lavender, or rosemary. Sound healing with a singing bowl is also an option, and even opening the windows in the front and back of your home can help nature and fresh air to circulate into your space. Our kimono store is currently closed, but you can still order all of these tools and have them shipped! Whether you need a sage bundle or a singing bowl or even essential oils to transform the smell of your home, email tiffany@kimandono.com with your request and we’ll get you all set up.
You may not feel like a well of creative ideas right now, but the new moon energy may inspire you to think of fresh intentions. Take some time to bring your ideas from your mind to the page with a journaling session. We always think creating a sacred space by wearing your favorite kimono fabric and lighting a candle can help bring your mind into focus. If you’re unsure of where to start, begin with a gratitude list and see how your ideas flow from there.
Our bodies hold onto so many things: anxieties, toxins, stresses, and burnout just to name a few. During this new moon, take a moment to wash off those energies with a soothing salt bath. We love the Calm Bath Sales by Herbivore Botanicals and carry them in our kimono store. Email tiffany@kimandono.com to purchase a set for yourself and give your mind and body some time to decompress and release the energy of the past month in a luxurious bath.
New Moon energy typically has a more driving, ambitious energy to it. But during a challenging time like this, have an ambition to take care of yourself with rest and self care. Quiet your mind, slip into your favorite kimono style, and slow down. Get into a good book with a cup of tea, or simply, go to bed a little bit earlier! Find the rest that feels right for you and indulge. This is the energy you’ll need to be productive and follow through with your new moon intentions.
Your body is your temple, so the energy you put into it will be the energy you take out. If you’re like us, the quarantine and shelter in place orders have thrown our healthy eating routines out the window. If you combine that with caring for kids and the challenges of grocery shopping, it’s very easy to let your healthy eating habits subside. So this new moon, set an intention to give your body nourishing foods. Not as a diet and not to lose weight, but instead to power you through, help give your body nutrients, and create that positive connection between a healthy gut and a healthy mind. If you slip into your go-to kimono style while preparing your food like @stayreddy, all the better!
At KIM+ONO, no matter what time of year, we always love a spring cleaning. We love to see how minimal we can make our space and how much intention and thought we can bring to it. That’s one of the reasons we opened our kimono store — to create a nurturing space for our community to come in, unwind, and breathe a little more deeply. But there’s no reason you can’t always create a luxurious feel at home during this time as well. Straighten up your space and simply start with the clutter. Get rid of the little things that you stop seeing after awhile and keep all countertops minimal and wiped down. And if you want to bring a little life to your space, we always recommend hanging your blue kimono robe on the back of the door or closet as a way to display a beautiful piece of art while keeping your room picked up and feeling lovely.
If you’ve been cooped up indoors, as the weather turns, don your face mask and take a short (socially distanced) walk around your neighborhood. It’s incredible what a little bit of vitamin D can do for your mood. And if you’re able to soak in a little sun, you’ll be able to reconnect with a higher vibration and calm. Nature always brings us back, so during this new moon, take a little time to enjoy it.
We know these are challenging times, but we hope these ideas for creating a ritual around this month’s new moon helps you to set intentions that bring you through the next thirty days with health and happiness in your heart.
