Authentic Kimono Robe Artistry Takes Time

These heritage-rich kimono robes take 7 days to craft from start to finish. You won’t find them mass-produced. In fact, the production of the Handpainted Silk Kimono Robe Collection is a generations-old process taught through an oral tradition, making your handpainted kimono robe unlike any other silk robe you own.

There’s not one piece of your kimono robe that our artisans don’t touch.

Here’s a Peek at The Process:

Our modern, botanical designs are first hand-sketched onto 100% Grade 6A Mulberry Silk.

Then, talented artisans, who’ve passed down this timeless tradition over generations, paint each one of the sketches by hand, creating the beautiful botanical scene.

Next, they hand paint the rich watercolor onto the silk background, saturating every inch of the fabric. Finally, they sew the final touches by hand.

From these handcrafted techniques come original works of wearable art.

Each kimono robe is truly unique, with minor variations from piece to piece, making each silk robe one of a kind.

Exclusive KIM+ONO Design Philosophy

Sisters and co-founders Renee and Tiffany Tam believe there is beauty in the everyday. And they bring this philosophy to every modern botanical design.

Blending inspiration from vintage Asian art with a contemporary aesthetic, every piece is designed to be both functional and elegant. The botanical scenes come alive on delicate silk fabric, creating a canvas to drape over your body and inspire you to appreciate the beauty in every piece.

It’s this blend of history and artistry that creates the KIM+ONO design philosophy. True heritage can’t be imitated — that’s why our signature designs can only be found at KIM+ONO.

Your Feedback, A New Life

Back in 2024, we had to halt new production on these beautiful handcrafted pieces of art. The traditional production process was faced with unexpected challenges that made it no longer possible to produce these beauties.

But many of you asked us to keep this exclusive collection going. And we take every request to heart.

So for about a year, we worked tirelessly with our production team to find creative solutions to maintain this generations-old production process so we can keep bringing you the signature collection you so love.

We are thrilled to share that after months of working with our skilled artisan production team in China’s Silk Village, we have found a way to keep this historical production process going. And we’ve done this while honoring and even strengthening our commitment to sustainability, safety, or healthy conditions and fair wages for our workers.

It’s because of YOU we were able to find a new production solution, move production locations, and bring you the pieces you love with the same historical production process that makes them so unique.

The Perfect Gift

Whether for a wedding day, special birthday, or momentous occasion, the Handpainted Silk Kimono Robe Collection offers a truly unique way to show how you care.

Cherry Blossom

The cherry blossom represents renewal. As the flower of the spring, it symbolizes the fleeting nature of life and the botanical embodiment of the idea that “every dawn is a new day”.

Crane

The crane is a symbol of longevity and peace, and when pictured among florals, a crane stands for prosperity, longevity, and purity.

Lotus

The lotus is a powerful symbol of enlightenment, the highest form of conscious awareness, and represents inspired self-regeneration and rebirth.

Peacock

The peacock stands for immortality — the manifestation of the phoenix rising from the ashes. For us, it also symbolizes love, good will, nurturing, and a kind heart.
