A Rare Tradition of Handpainted Silk Artistry

These heritage-rich kimono robes take days to craft from start to finish — never mass-produced, and created through a generations-old process passed down through oral tradition. Each Handpainted Silk Kimono Robe reflects an increasingly rare form of artistry, making every piece unlike any other silk robe you own.

As the master artisans behind this tradition begin retiring, KIM+ONO is honored to bring you these pieces representing one of the final chapters of this extraordinary craft.

There’s not one piece of your kimono robe that our artisans don’t touch.

Inside the Handpainted Process:

Each design begins as an original botanical illustration, hand-sketched onto 100% Grade 6A Mulberry Silk.

Master artisans then paint every detail by hand using techniques passed down over generations, bringing each scene to life through layered brushwork and rich watercolor saturation.

From painting the silk backgrounds to sewing the finishing details, every stage is completed with extraordinary care by hand.

The result is an original work of wearable art — rich in craftsmanship, heritage, and human touch.

No two pieces are exactly alike. Subtle variations in brushwork and color are a natural part of the handpainted process, making every kimono robe truly one of a kind.

The KIM+ONO Design Philosophy

Sisters and co-founders Renee and Tiffany Tam believe there is beauty in the everyday — a philosophy woven into every KIM+ONO design.

Blending inspiration from vintage Asian art with a contemporary aesthetic, each piece is created to feel both elegant and effortless. Botanical scenes unfold across delicate silk like a painted canvas, designed to drape beautifully while inviting moments of beauty into daily rituals.

It’s this blend of heritage, artistry, and modern storytelling that defines the KIM+ONO design philosophy. True craftsmanship cannot be replicated — which is why these signature designs can only be found at KIM+ONO.

An Archival Collection

Handpainted Silk now represents an archival collection within KIM+ONO — a rare body of work created through increasingly scarce artisanal techniques.

As the master artisans behind this tradition begin retiring, remaining pieces will be produced only in limited quantities and, once sold out, will not return.

We are deeply honored to have helped preserve and share this extraordinary craftsmanship for so many years, and hope these wearable works of art continue to be treasured for generations to come.

The Perfect Gift

Whether for a wedding day, special birthday, or momentous occasion, the Handpainted Silk Kimono Robe Collection offers a truly unique way to show how you care.

Cherry Blossom

The cherry blossom represents renewal. As the flower of the spring, it symbolizes the fleeting nature of life and the botanical embodiment of the idea that “every dawn is a new day”.

Crane

The crane is a symbol of longevity and peace, and when pictured among florals, a crane stands for prosperity, longevity, and purity.

Lotus

The lotus is a powerful symbol of enlightenment, the highest form of conscious awareness, and represents inspired self-regeneration and rebirth.

Peacock

The peacock stands for immortality — the manifestation of the phoenix rising from the ashes. For us, it also symbolizes love, good will, nurturing, and a kind heart.
