A Simple Ritual to Wind Down Your Year with Gratitude

Posted by Renee & Tiffany on

The end of the year is full of the potential for magic. There’s a little nostalgia in the air and old memories resurface. The quiet morning moments invite us to set our seasonal intentions, the restful evenings invite us to feel a deeper sense of peace. Whether your year felt successful, sweet, chaotic, or all three at once, you deserve a way to mark it with presence, intention, and the healing that comes from taking good care of yourself.

So in that spirit, we want to offer a simple ritual designed to help you gently close one chapter and open the next. It doesn’t require you to leave your house, go on vacation, or buy anything super extravagant. It will only require a bit of your attention, your deepest breath, and your warm willingness to feel what you feel. And sure, a beautiful kimono-style silky robe never hurts. So here’s your ritual:

Step One: Slip Into Your Kimono Robe

Rituals begin by crossing a threshold, either physical or psychological. The threshold moment is when you leave the ordinary world and step into a feeling of intentionality and focus. That moment can be as simple as changing what you’re wearing. When you slip into a ladies silk robe or a long silky robe, you’re not just wearing another layer of clothing. You’re creating a signal to your mind and your body to slow down, reset, and feel at home in your own skin.  It’s a subtle reminder that the day is done, the inbox is closed, and the demands of everyone else will just have to wait.

100% Grade 6A Raw Mulberry Silk offers you a unique luxurious softness. A womens long silk robe moves as you move, and creates a breathable yet temperature-adjusting hug around your body, like a cocoon. It’s elegant and grounding. A silky robe is your first invitation within this ritual to slow down. As you tie the belt, imagine that you are gently tying yourself back to yourself.

Step Two: Light a Candle

Fire has traditionally been at the center of many rituals. Every culture, every spiritual tradition, every ancient gathering has used it to mark time, intention, and transformation. For this ritual, light a candle in front of you. It doesn’t have to be any particular shape, color, or scent. Watch it while it flickers and notice how responsive it is to even the smallest shift in air. Let it remind you that you, too, are alive in subtle ways. As you sit in your ladies silk robe or wrapped in your long silky robe, let the candle mark the center of this ritual, bringing your energy towards the light itself.

Step Three: Meditate

You don’t need to be “good” at meditation to meditate. All you have to do is sit still as much as you can. Find a comfortable seat. Let your womens long silk robe drape over your legs. Feel the soft weight of it anchoring you to the chair, the floor, the moment. Then, close your eyes. Imagine the past year as a long, winding road behind you. You don’t need to react to it or judge it, just notice it and see what you can see. Then after you see the road behind you, now imagine a wide open field ahead of you to represent the coming year full of unknown and possibility. For just a few minutes, sit between what was and what will be in this meditation. Let your breath bring you back when you want to wander in one of those directions and remember to stay right here, right now.

Step Four: Box Breathing

Now it’s time to bring in the breath. Your breath is one of the most powerful tools you have for calming your nervous system and bringing clarity to your mind.

Try this box breathing method:

  • Inhale for 4 counts
  • Hold for 4
  • Exhale for 4
  • Hold for 4

Repeat this entire cycle four times. As you breathe through each cycle, feel how your body settles deeper into your silky robe. Feel how your shoulders drop. Your jaw softens and your tongue lets go of the roof of your mouth. Your thoughts slow to the present moment. Your body is always listening to your breath, so when you breathe slowly, it believes you are safe. Let that feeling of safety wrap around you like your ladies silk robe.

Step Five: Write Down Your Wishes for the Next Year

Now that you’ve calmed down and connected with where you are right now, take out a piece of paper and a pen. Don’t worry, it’s not time to set goals. You don’t need to be productive and there’s no ritualized hustle that we’re going to guide you through! Instead, this is a way to tap in with your own innate desires. Sometimes when we take care of others, it’s hard to even hear what it is we want for ourselves. Take some time to do that now:

Write down what you wish for in the next year. Here are some ideas: rest, love, courage, joy, money, creativity, ease, comfort, self care, luxury, connection, generosity.

Jot down all kinds of ideas. It’s allowed to be specific or poetic or wildly impractical. These wishes are simply a way to have a conversation with yourself and the universe. As you write, feel yourself wrapped in the softness of your womens long silk robe, supported by the ritual you’ve created. Your dreams deserve the time and space they need to expand.

Step Six: Burn Them in the Fire

Now comes the symbolic moment of transformation for your ritual. Take your piece of paper to a safe place — a fireplace, a fire pit, a candle in a fireproof bowl. Carefully light the edge of the paper and let it catch. Let go of what you want in a symbolic act of letting go control of life. You have connected to them, claimed them, and now it’s time to release them. If you don’t want to burn them, you can bury them, or soak them in water, or simply throw them in the trash. As you stand there in your long silky robe or ladies silk robe, feel how freeing it is to not have to control how your dreams come true.

You can do this ritual on December 31st or January 1st. Or any quiet night when you feel the need to reset. You can light a candle, slip into your favorite ladies silk robe, breathe, write, and release again and again. You deserve these ritualized moments of connection, rest, and self care.
